Love that you showed the squares that a selected piece can move (I should have done that for my chess game, but didn't feel like it ), and good graphics, but the way to take it to the next level would be a simple AI (yes, I know that is way too much work, I'm making some right now for my chess game in c++) that would at least move the pieces with a small degree of intelligence such as not being checkmated on the next move if possible.
